In 1957 Roger Gerhart bought a used 933 Cat Loader and a Reo dump truck. The business quickly grew from doing small residential and farm jobs to one of the largest highway, bridge, waterway, and commercial site contractors in South-Central Pennsylvania. Gerhart also supplied sand and gravel materials for other area contractors.
In the mid 1970’s, Gerhart companies shifted from the contracting business to sales, service, and equipment rentals. Gerhart had agreements with Northwest Engineering for cranes, shovels, and draglines. Gerharts also became an exclusive area distributor of the Mack Truck M-Series off-highway trucks.
In 1976 Gerhart Equipment was established. In 2000 Gerhart Equipment changed its name to Gerhart Machinery. Gerharts have been rebuilding and remanufacturing crawler, dragline, and truck cranes for over 40 years. Gerharts specializes in Northwest and Bucyrus Erie cranes but they also work on Link Belt, American, Manitowoc, and others.
Gerhart Machinery is located on Brunnerville Road in Lititz, PA. Gerharts have over 25 acres of used equipment, crane related attachment inventory, and one of the largest heavy equipment repair facilities in the area.
