In 1957, Roger purchased two pieces of used equipment, an REO dump truck and a Caterpillar crawler ; starting the ball rolling as Roger E. Gerhart, Inc.  This new business began by way of small excavating jobs.  It soon grew to include contracts to build roads and construct bridges.  Along the way, trucking, demolition and coal mining joined the list.

The company expanded its base with the creation of Gerhart Equipment Company in 1976; the focus of this new company was the sale and service of heavy construction equipment.  Northwest draglines and cranes, and Mack “off-highway” trucks were the featured products.  The name changed one more time in the year 2000.  Today, as always, Gerhart Machinery upholds its outstanding record of service for the Northwest brand, and for many other brands of heavy construction equipment.

Gerhart Machinery Co. invites you to visit and take a tour of our shop and equipment yard.  You will find us in Pennsylvania’s Lancaster County, well known as the home of the Amish.   Our address is slightly north of the historic town of Lititz.  Here you can enjoy the famous “Wilbur Buds” from Wilbur Chocolate Co. and pretzels from Sturgis Pretzel Bakery where you can even make your own pretzel.  Be sure not to miss the Rolex Watch Technicum; acclaimed architect Michael Graves has designed a stunning, modern-day version of the stone barn.
